The United States is the world’s fourth photovoltaic solar energy market. A country with of its size, with enormous areas of level five solar radiation (the most profitable in terms of solar use) and with advantageous economic conditions in certain states, means the presence of Martifer Solar in North America can be highly profitable.
Gustavo Fernandes, Expansion Director of Martifer Solar, explains the participation of the company in this country: “in the land where photovoltaic solar energy was discovered, Martifer Solar wants to be the best player in the turnkey solutions market”. Martifer Solar obtained a foothold in the North American market through the purchase of a local company, which happened in March 2008. By the end of this same year it will have installed more than 5 MW of solar photovoltaic plants, which demonstrates its growth potential and its future prospects, which will make the company become one of the front runners in the solar industry in the United States.
With an office already open and operating in Los Angeles, it is planned to open branches in San Diego and San Francisco. California is the main promoter of the solar industry with an ambitious goal of having 3,000 MW installed before 2015, according to the plan of the public organization California Solar Initiatives (CSI).
In the United States there are diverse forms of promoting photovoltaic solar energy, the most common are the advantageous tax rebates, the closed five-year rates and the Power Purchase Agreement, a kind of agreement between the investor and the installing and operating company whereby an advantageous electricity price is maintained for the investor for 20 years and at the end of the period the plant passes into his hands.
