United Kingdom

The UK Government aims to achieve 15% of the country’s energy consumption from renewable energy sources until 2020. The launch of a feed-in- tariff turned UK into an attractive market for PV. Martifer Solar wants to play a leading role in this prominent market, which is encouraging the development of the value chain and consequently creating green jobs and attracting big players.

In 2010 a total of 40 MW of PV was installed, with total capacity in the UK reaching about 67 MW. Over 65% of the roofs available in the UK are owner occupied and have an excellent orientation, which will favour the adoption of photovoltaic installations. The National Renewable Energy Action Plan has set the target of 1,070 MW installed by 2015 and 2,680 MW by 2020. Bloomberg New Energy Finance expects the market to install between 150 and 300 MW in 2011 and between 200 and 420 MW in 2012. These numbers will create a huge number of opportunities and Martifer Solar is in the market to seize them.

Based on Martifer Solar’s worldwide experience, João Cunha, Country Manager for the UK, sees the entry in this market , as “the possibility of focusing our knowledge and experience in a rigorous market, where the preposition «value for money» reaches its maximum outcome, and where trust and security are required. At the same time is an opportunity for Martifer Solar to diversify its strategy accordingly to the UK market: small and medium scale projects.”
